Essential oils ABC, part 3
Having discussed the basics of essential oils and diffusers in earlier parts, we now focus on their use in skincare and around the home.
Essential oils in skincare
Essential oils must never be applied undiluted directly to the skin. Always mix with a carrier oil such as jojoba, almond or coconut oil. The recommended ratio is 1–2 drops of essential oil per 1 tbsp of carrier oil.
Tea tree oil: Antibacterial, suitable for problem skin.
Lavender: Calming, suitable for sensitive and irritated skin.
Rosehip oil: Supports skin renewal, helps reduce scars and pigmentation spots.
Essential oils around the home
Add a few drops of essential oil to cleaning products for natural scent and antibacterial effect. Lemon and tea tree oil are especially effective as cleaning agents.
Essential oils in the bath
Add 5–10 drops of essential oil (mixed with 1 tbsp of honey, salts or milk) to bathwater. Lavender relaxes, eucalyptus opens airways and rosemary invigorates.
